Asking for a Friend

Are you ok with it all,

The at each other's throat

Super highway of bile,

The constant vitriol,

From anger mismanagement central

Brains rotting, Inflamed by hate,

Vomiting ignorance and anger,

Frothing like some rabid badger

Because of rainbows,

Because of love,

Because true self expression is scary,

So kill it with fire, right?

Easier than engaging and asking questions,

Easier than accepting or at least tolerating

that which you can't understand.

Easier than learning.

And so you are easy marks

For a classic grift and con.

Are you ok, With it all,

The picking of your pockets,

I mean, are you ok with your

attachment to hate.

Is love dead?

Asking for a friend.

I Remember

 I remember the innocence,

The blessed ignorance

of youth,

Kicking a can,

Listening to it thunk, clank, crack, tink and roll

down the street.

I remember the soakers and the

frogs,

The hikes and the logs,

The bikes and my first dog,

What a gift she was.

I remember the fifth hole at St. Davids,

The willows swaying in the breeze,

And the sun beating down.

I remember my mother's touch,

My father's smile,

The smell of four mile creek behind the old General Store,

And I remember a life, less complicated.

Less corrosive to the soul.

Touch

Where has it gone,

Into hiding,

Behind a disguise,

Afraid.

It was warm,

Comforting,

There for you,

Like a blanket,

Like your old favorite sweater.

I miss it,

Like I miss my parents,

Like I miss my pets,

Like i miss sanity.

Touch

Stay Safe

 There's hatred in the streets,

A virus and global heat,

Many dead on their feet

On a front line of loss

So, stay safe.

There's selfishness and greed,

Fear of failure,

Can we succeed,

They're putting profit ahead of the need.

So, stay safe.

There's a vice grip on everyone's mind,

Not enough people are kind,

Too many falling behind.

Blaming each other for pain.

A world seemingly going insane

So, stay safe.

And all of the issues we face,

Are still there,

This isn't a race,

This world runs on money,

Not grace.

So... stay safe.

Trump

Festering orange lump,
A clown,
A grump,
Not a tree
But a stump,
A veritable
Toxic dump,
Of humanity

Trump,
A bad case of the mumps,
A clod,
A clump,
A constant pain in the rump,
A bump.
A stinking sump pump,
With a hump.
It's time to
Fire this chump

Love Weeps

A brain inflamed, misfiring,
Closed loop of despair on repeat,
Palpitations keeping time
An off beat composition of fear in overdrive,

A heart tired of feeling,
A soul tired of being,
A rented room full of tears
And empty cigarette packages

An artist without a canvas,
A musician without a note,
An angel of empathy
Absorbing shit that can’t be flushed.

A body aging, aching,
A life of privilege and observation,
So much selfish destruction
And anger.

A life lived in relative safety,
Wishing the same for all,
Witness to monstrous atrocity
With no way of stopping it.

A world turning, oblivious,
Spinning and not caring,
About the pretentious humanity
Defiling her.

A poem, a pointless exercise,
Sounds interesting to the ear,
Will not heal the wounds
That bleed freely, hate and fear.

Love weeps, and waits for a better day.

What Is It

What is it you hate about me,
Am I too this, too that,
Not enough of the other thing.
Maybe a tad too different,
Not quite like you,
Not your favorite old sweater,
Perhaps a bit uncomfortable.

What is it you hate about me,
Am I too queer, too fat, too colourful.
Not enough normal for you,
Not enough same,
Not a beer with the guys,
Or a pizza on Tuesday night,
What is it.

What is it you hate about me,
Is it the air I breath,
The blood in my veins,
The feelings that resemble your own
greatest fear.
Are you afraid you might actually
Have to care about something,
Are you afraid of your own humanity.

What is it you hate about me,
Is it something I said,
Is it something you learned
From your prejudiced pecking order peers.

What is it you hate about me,
Is it the fact I make you think,
Make you face your own stone cold heart.
Make you face your own personal shit.

What is it,
This hate.
What is it,
This anger.
What is it,
This missing love.

It's National Poetry Day

Women scream into an unheard echo chamber of misogynist denial,
Old money still determines which voices actually matter,
Old men hooked on viagra and ego suggest boys will be boys,
It's national poetry day.

A pathological liar asshole with a bad comb over mocks all opposition,
His trained seals barking in unison, locked in a brainwashed loop of bullshit,
Pretend progressives complain vigorously against this new level of self centered nonsense,
It's national poetry day.

Lobbyists for war and profit court red and blue pill swallowers equally behind a wall of shame,
Fooling all those who still think democracy exists,
Confident their lures of a well padded bank account will be enough to keep this farce going,
It's national poetry day.

The marginalized look on in disbelief as their rights erode like so much sand on a well washed beach,
Women, people of colour, LGBT, the working poor and anyone else who actually needs help
Are ridiculed and shit upon regularly by a justice system, and political system that favours the male, the white, the rich and the straight...

buy hey... it's national poetry day.... so there's that.

Flying

I'll fly away from me again,
Pretend to never be again,
Over sea to see again,
The other side of pain.

I'll fly toward the east I think,
The west has brought me to the brink,
In search of my own missing link,
To the south of Spain.

I'll fly to where the palm trees sway,
I'll fly to where the dolphins play,
This life makes no sense anyway,
I'll give you what I gain.

I'll fly until the sky runs out,
I'll fly until i have no doubt,
Until I know what I'm about,
I'll fly and fly again.

To you, yes you there sitting still,
Before you take another pill,
Take flight my friends, find the will,
That's it, good bye, the end.

Bang Bang Bang

Bang, Bang, Bang.
Lay down and die,
Now you're a tourist,
With a hole in your eye,
Bang, bang, bang,
Better off dead,
Now your a mommy,
With a hole in your head,
Bang, bang, bang,
Gimme them shoes,
They'll look better on me,
When I'm on the news,
Bang, bang, bang,
Your right to bear arms,
The hunter, the hunted,
So what's the harm,
Bang, bang, bang,
Brady bill passed,
Brady bunch battles,
But are sorely out classed,
Bang, bang, bang,
Take, take, take,
Want, want, want,
For heaven's sake,
Bang, bang, bang,
So goes the gun,
Oh what protection,
Oh what fun,
Bang, bang, bang,
Desensitized,
And we are the reapers,
Of all the lies,
Bang, bang, bang,
Innocence lost,
Terrible, rising,
Statistical cost.
Bang, bang, bang,
Your child is dead,
Might as well call Kervorkian,
Instead,
Bang, bang, bang,
And so it goes on,
The continuous battle,
Of right and wrong,
Bang, bang, bang,
Bang, you're gone,
End of story,
End of song.

A Fine Line

It's a fine line,

Between sin and salvation,

A fine line,

Between temptation and will,

A fine line,

Between eternity and damnation,

A fine line,

Between luck and skill,

It's a fine line

Between faith and frustration,

A fine line

Between is and aint,

A fine line,

Between insanity and genius,

A fine line,

Between love and hate,

It's a fine line,

Between have and have not,

A fine line,

Between hope and despair,

A fine line,

Between freedom and bondage,

A fine line,

Between truth and a dare,

It's a fine line,

That wrinkles the forehead,

A fine line,

Carved deep in the brow,

A fine line,

Down the palm of your hand,

A fine line,

Betwwen why and how,

It's a fine line,

Between questions and answers,

A fine line,

Everyone takes,

A fine line,

Straight and narrow,

A fine line,

Full of mistakes,

It's a fine line,

That draws the conclusions,

A fine line,

Between difference and spite,

A fine line,

That separates people,

A fine line,

Between wrong and right,

It's a fine line,

Between care and indifference,

A fine line,

Between wisdom and wit,

A fine line,

Between knowledge and ignorance,

And and fine line

Between win and quit.

Close Your Eyes

Close your eyes

And dream of someone smiling,

Close you eyes,

And dream that it is true,

Close your eyes.

Forget about the crying,

Close your eyes,

Imagine that it’s you.

Close your eyes

And dream of someone dancing,

Close your eyes,

And dream about a song,

Close your eyes,

And dream about a lover,

Close your eyes,

And dream there’s nothing wrong.

Close your eyes,

And look beyond the anger,

Close your eyes,

And look beyond the pain,

Close your eyes,

And look beyond the hatred,

Close your eyes,

And look beyond the rain.

Close your eyes,

And look into the future,

Close your eyes,

And look into the past,

Close your eyes,

And look into the present,

Close your eyes,

And look, it doesn’t last.

Close your eyes,

And dream of people smiling,

Close your eyes

And dream there is no war,

Close your eyes,

And dream of people caring,

Close your eyes,

And dream a little more.

Dream Land

You base your politics on rejection of the other.
You direct it at the ignorant, the fearful.
You exploit the uneducated to cement your hold on power.
You court hatred as if it were your lover.
And those who understand can only watch,
For you have a pulpit, a podium, with a cool catch phrase;
Make Dream Land great again,
You repeat it incessantly to a willing audience of fools.

Meanwhile, the less fortunate,
Those without the luxury of hand me down power,
Are content to be manipulated, molded, divided and conquered, helplessly.
Oblivious to the fact they are all far more alike than different.
Trapped in their own cognitive dissonance,
They duke it out on social media, blissfully immersed in their own ignorance.

You embrace bald faced lies as fact,
And reject fact as so much unwanted fiction
A dangerous affront to your selfish goals,
Your bloated ego can’t stand a direct challenge
So you retreat to your gold adorned bathroom for solace.

You are resident lump of Dream Land,
A joke played on the population,
At a time when the level of ignorance
And hate is anything but funny.

You are not very good at math,
Numbers are somehow foreign to you
Yet amazingly, you are adept at simple division,
Of people.

Dream Land,
Home of the grave,
Home of this pompous orange orator
I see an apple pie,
Rotting on the counter.

Oh, Dream Land, where is the love
Where is your heart and soul.
Where are you leading this broken world.

Words

The words escape me,
They were once locked up
Easily accessible,
But now they are their own boss
It would seem.

I struggle to contact them
And they ignore me,
Like petulant children,
Playing just out of reach,
In a fog.

The words escape me,
They were once tethered to my mind,
Like a horse to a rail,
Easily ridden to new destinations,
Willingly.

But now they taunt me,
From a distance.
Like  a bully mocks his victim.

The words escape me,
Like butterflies,
Fleeting across open fields, playfully
While I run about flailing,
Desperately,
Attempting to pin down
Freedom itself.

The words escape me.
If you see them,
Tell them I said hello.

Disillusioned

I used to think there was a chance,
To change the world for better,
I used to believe in love and romance,
And now I can’t forget her.
I used to write
In search of an answer,
I used to care,
But this world has cancer.

I used to believe in a dream,
That everyone could share,
I used to think that love conquered all,
And all was fair.
I used to sing,
As if it mattered,
But it doesn’t.

I used to be in love,
But I gave it all away,
I used to be in heaven,
But hell is here to stay.

I used to be a lover,
But now I’m just a dream,
I used to be alive,
But now half dead it seems.

I used to write,
But Now I reason,
I used to see the light,
But fall is now the season

I used to think there was a chance,
To be what I could be,
But now the curtain is descending,
And it’s getting to hard to see.

Snickers

Snickers.

Here lies Snickers the cat,
Best damn cat ever !
I will miss you Snick !
Your constant meowing,
Your playful nature,
Your pissing on things you shouldn’t,
RIP my friend.
See you later.
Love

Peace of Mind

Who are "Transgenders"?
Are we something to fear?
Are we out to prey
On your children and your wives?
Do you embrace a false fear,
Do you malign innocents?
Defame the marginalized.
Or do you choose to love.
Who are "Transgenders"?
I'll tell you who we are,
We are sisters,
We are brothers,
We are fathers and mothers,
We are aunts and uncles,
Children and adults,
Of every race,
From every walk of life,
And we are innocent.
And in some cultures honored,
As people possessing wisdom,
As people possessing insight others
Do not possess,
Who are "Transgenders"?
We are women and men,
Young and old,
Non-Binary and conformist,
We are in a word,
Everyone.
And we are out for one thing,
Peace of mind.

Fragile

This breath,
Taken for granted,
This heartbeat,
Keeping time,
All so very fragile,
And fleeting.

This life,
Lived to the fullest,
When some can only dream,
Gone, but not forgotten,
By current memories.

And so we fade,
Into history,
A footnote of the past,
Enjoy the bumpy ride my friends,
I hear it doesn't last.

Ideas

You wax the words,
Pollish phrases,
And hope sentences will grow,
To form verses and or stories,
Or a song you'll come to know,
Just as flowers in the evening,
Close and go to bed,
Again, we see them blossom,
When the light is overhead,
You find ideas,
Within the darkness,
And when the light comes on,
There they are for all to see,
As if hidden all along,
So with care of cultivation,
A gift can truly grow,
And appear to be a talent,
Even genius, don't you know,
But without determination,
And the will to find a way,
Ideas are left in dreamland,
Where soon they fade away,
So when they sprout,
Just plant them,
On some paper,
With a pen,
And just maybe you will touch someone,
And live to tell, again.
